Sarah has been here for a day, it is been so good hanging out. I work only 3 days this week before I go home for a 4 day weekend for sister's high school graduation. Some aunts, cousins, and grandparents will be coming, which is fun. Hardly anyone visits us, so its nice to have people come.

I love the rain, but not when I want a sunny day at the beach. Yesterday, Sarah, Rachel, and I made a trip to the beach in a torrential downpour. We knew it wouldn't be rainy at the beach, but it wasn't sunny either. It was better than sitting at home on the couch. It was great fun to be with friends talking, laughing, sharing with each other. Afterwards I hosted a chicken fajita dinner with cappucino chocolate brownies! It was so much fun having friends over!!

To exercise or to sleep? This is the question. Instead I blog. This week was full of hectic-ness at work. I come home every night exhausted. Not to mention I have started doing P90X at home to change up my workout routine. Once I'm done with that I'm pretty much spent for the day. I go to bed and do it all over again. Only to come to the weekend to find myself with nothing of much to do and nobody to go to the beach with today. Beach day is pending for tomorrow with a friend.
I have applied to a new position at work in ICU. It scares the heck out of me to transition and apply for this position. It really does. Do I remember enough, am I smart enough? Can I think on my feet and be practical in the clinical setting with high acuity patient care? Will I be well supported? But still exciting more is moving on and getting towards my goal of being a critical care nurse. I will be set in my career because the possibilities are endless with critical care. There is a great window of opportunity.
And so now I go to work out. Budgeting is in the mix for the afternoon, as is a trip to Target. Love that store!

Chest Pain
I had my first patient with chest pain on Friday! For 4 hours he was hooked up to telemetry and O2 and I was keeping a panicked close eye on him while getting cardiologists and hospitalists in for consult. It was a stressful thing for me, but we ended up ok. He had a heart rate of 30...that is reeeeaaaallllly low for you non medical people. First they thought he had a heart block, meaning his heart was not electrically communicating entirely and ventricles and atria just pumping not in coordination. Then just a slow heart rate, then his EKG showed an infarct (meaning he had a heart attack/blood supply cut off from a portion of the heart). The entire time I was freaking out while documenting and coordinating getting him up to a monitored floor. I'm told I did all I could do, I just wanted to make sure it was correct. Hopefully the patient is ok.
I stayed overtime that day. Here's to getting in to ICU. Thats what is like up there, just more constant. It terrifies me at the same time it excites me. Can't wait!!

I have my new car! I have new tires and had it aligned yesterday. I got my new plate, tags, insurance. I spent $1000 yesterday doing that....I almost cried, a couple of times. My driver side window is now broken broken. Or the motor is. There is not much to do about it going back to the owners, I mean, what do you do? It would be more time than its worth. My dad is going to fix it, good dad! I love that he knows cars.
Just frustrating to deal with little things here and there that add up and empty your bank account. Welcome to being an adult. I just want my mom to fix it for me.

New to me Car!
Last fall I made an offer to my parents to buy the car I am driving, a 1994 Corolla. I love my little car, it is old, it has its quirks, it shakes and makes funny noises. They turned me down. Boo. So, I set out to save my money and buy a car.
I found out about a car through a girl at work. I got information, found out the car was just the price I was willing to spend. Told the owner I would pay in cash, to hold it for me to look at this weekend. I looked at the car this morning and brought over a mechanically minded guy friend. He checked it out and said it was good except for the need for new tires. I am almost the owner of a 2000 Camry. I have never owned a car in the 2000's. I drove a 1987 Chevy Astro for 2 years in high school, a 1991 station wagon for a year, a 1992 Corolla another year, and a 1994 Corolla for the past 5 years. These were all family cars that were shuffled around from one kid to another. So, 2000, altho 9 years old, is entirely new for me!!
One big reason the owners held the car for me was I was willing to pay cash. Thanks, Dave Ramsey!! I look forward to getting the car and driving it. My first car!
